Wencombe /Kingsbridge Regis/Louville Lane

Just to add I appreciate that in the real world any boats fishing out of Kingsbridge would have Salcombe (SE) but this a fictional bit of S. Devon and Kingsbridge Regis ia a borough that includes Salcombe therefore in my world the SE numbers weren't issued.

Taking a break from boats and harbours, I've been raising the painted back scene as in places it looked as if the hills were lower than the harbour. I used the same method as I did for Wencombe using various washes of Tamiya flat green. Its' nowhere near finished but a few photos.

As it was

After a few washes. Looking slightly strange but with more hazy detail painted on and with buildings and trees in front I'm hoping it will look OK.

And with a few painted trees and a building back in place.

I didn't like the bleached look to the grass now that the back scene was painted, so over the weekend I painted the hanging basket liner with remains of the paint I painted the back scene with, much watered down.

You can see the difference if you look at the 1st photo in my previous photo post to the photo below.

"Today I have been doing buildings". At least started work on the buildings that go up the hill towards the hotel. I've posed them for a photo shoot. The sides of the upper two, just card amsking taped onto the fronts, are there to give me some idea of height and roof pitch.

Continuing work on the house up the hill, locally known as the "Steps", you'll see why when its finished. All the house now have painted and glazed windows and doors, the windows are also curtained. Now all I have to do is the side walls, roofs and chimneys. No Photos at the moment but there will be some by the end of the week.

"The Steps" buildings are getting closer to completion. By the way they are all built using American kits as the starting point. The three buildings to right (the right hand semi and the 2 double fronted ones started out as this Walthers kit:

All four sides were used except the bottom (ie doors and windows) of the front.

This is what they are turning into, at the moment without tiles, capping, guttering and down pipes.

And the last photo is of all 4 buildings.

The houses now detailed with drain pipes, flashing and chimney pots. I'm thinking of moving the hotel to where it is in the photos below so that it will be easier to make the road disappear at a shallow angle rather than directly into the back scene as it does at the moment (look at previous photos).

I wonder what you think.

Answering my own question I decided to move the hotel and road (weights are holding down the new section of road) and add another building (roofless at the moment) to try and camouflage the half relief-ness of it all. The hotel will have a tree growing near it.

A beautiful scene Alan, I like the progression shots of the houses and surrounding area...maybe a little weathering on the clean walls and roofs would add to it again ;)

As someone who doesn't build layouts this step by step approach is really wonderful and inspiring. I can see how it could be made to apply to 7mm. It almost  makes me want to start one of my own! However, first job is to get moved and new workshop built.

I really appreciate this thread. Alan. Long may it continue.
