Yes. 81 x meant 1981 October. No photos were taken, which was not surprising. David Jenkinson came with the NRM commission. Shortly after the Duchess was painted, it came back for renumbering when David discovered he'd made a mistake.I knew I hadn't imagined the Duchess! I forgot about before and after photos I'm afraid but it was just a light/polish using a cotton bud.
I decided to replace the headcode glass as it didn't sit right - 1mm perspex cut to fit.
