I knew I hadn't imagined the Duchess! Do you have any photos of it as I'm struggling to find any.
Were these all specifically done for the model railway?

Yes. 81 x meant 1981 October. No photos were taken, which was not surprising. David Jenkinson came with the NRM commission. Shortly after the Duchess was painted, it came back for renumbering when David discovered he'd made a mistake.
I wonder if the NRM kept the cherished registration plates 'MR 1000'? David had MR 999 on his own car.

I'm trying to find where the a Duchess is - I have a kit built Duchess to strip and rebuild as it happens.
I'm looking at refurbishing 'your' coaches later this year. The paintwork is still in excellent condition but buffers, corridor connections, etc, have signs of wear.
The biggest issue is axle bearings being mounted from the outside of the bogie frames within the cosmetic axle box castings and these can fail so we need to address this.
We estimated that they have done over a six figure mileage! Perhaps quarter of a million miles.
They have incredible durability.

Were you able to establish exactly what the shade of blue was and if the lining was on both sides of the engine or only one side? There seem to be uncertainties surrounding the loco at that time of its life.

A Heljan Warship is up next, one of its motors had failed.
As an experiment I'm trying "MM36" motors which can be purchased from a number of suppliers for less than £4 each. Dimensionally identical, both with 2,3mm shafts which is key.
Initial tests seem very positive.
Should they need swapping again it's about forty minutes to do so.

The loco following transfers and a gloss top coat - it'll be in virtually new condition, hence no OLE flashes.
I chose D827 KELLY after one of my best friends
Few bits to go on yet - windows need polishing with T Cut, hopefully the headcode glass will look much less plastic afterwards

I'm assuming T Cut works in the same way as Tamiya polishing paste?

I use manicurists nail buffing/polishing files.
The windows on the left had mounded on windscreen wipers which I carefully carved and scraped off and finished the windows with manicurist's files.

Basically, yes. I've done a fair few RTR coach sides with it (and have some more to do).

I actually used this as it was to hand.
I forgot about before and after photos I'm afraid but it was just a light/polish using a cotton bud.
I decided to replace the headcode glass as it didn't sit right - 1mm perspex cut to fit.

It's my MG ZT, which I've had since 2011. It's part of the family and was our wedding car back in 2023
It only comes out on sunny days now!
