I presume at some juncture mini avalanche shelters will be constructed to place at the entrance holes. Each with a roofing felt cover which would slip under one of the shed lap joints to prevent ingress of rain water by capillary action.

Yes, exactly as before (2014)...

One improvement this time round is a gap so that there is no physical link between the external and internal baseboards...

4" x 1" planed wood forms the platform and approach road to the yard. A lot simpler than cutting plywood to shape. A layer of 1/8" cork will cover the lot. It can be drilled to take lamp posts and fencing etc...

The platform etc is not screwed down yet...

Larry,

my experience of planed softwood is that the damn stuff never stays flat. My thought is that you should not fix it too firmly to the baseboards because when it warps, it’ll spoil them. Let it warp, plane it flat again, and re-use with packing….

You probably want to locate it with pins that will pull out.

Its not only soft wood, we at the L&B carriage works use Iroko hard wood, we store it strapped together once cut. In large planks it may well stay straight'ish, but once we cut it down into workable sizes it bends. You should look at what long lengths of sole plates and cantrails do, its an eye opener

I love working with wood and would have taken an apprenticeship at 15 had I know what the parents had planned when I was 16! Still, I did get to build livestock trailers in my 20's. I'll do the same as before and screw the planed wood to the 3" x 1" baseboard cross members so that the plywood top is a sandwich.

A couple of hours was spent chiselling out a hole for point rodding and fixing Wills SSMP 200 Coarse Stone to the face of the station platform. Platform edging slabs will come next followed by spraying...

I found it very satisfying doing a small bit of scenic building work on my 7mm test plank, I even managed to do a reasonable (for me) paint and weathering job with acrylics

What I do like with 7mm is the weight of stock, especially whitemetal locos

EDITED : Sanded down and sprayed. I'm wasn't happy with the initial colours, so I did a re-mix today (Sunday) and matched the stone I was using several years ago by adding cellulose yellow that I reserved for lining out coaches. The grey is Halfords grey primer...

The objective throughout was to squeeze everything in without widening the baseboard any further. So without compromising maximum width in the goods yard, the platform was slewed over at the door end to allow space for a laser cut cattle dock. just near the door...
WEB Llanfair7 9N.jpg

The station building has had to be moved forward to allow lorries to pass behind it leaving 8' 6" from the building to the platform edge. With no trains flying through the station, I figure it may be enough...

The track layout I posted the other day looked too 'busy'. This photo was taken to see how the continuous curve looked. The Peco turnouts are easy to curve....

WEB Llanfair7 11A.jpg

The Settrack turnout has done its job of widely spacing the tracks in the yard. It was shortened by 4 sleepers. We will have to assume there is a catch point at the 'shunt limit' on the main line. I could have inserted a catch in the yard and may well do, but space it tight.....
