with hindsight i would have made the base boards deeper by 6in but at 6ft by2ft each they are just about managable the joints of each board dictated the track design, re pointwork not being laid across a baseboard joint. i also didnt want to make the layout look overcrowded ,the curve leading into the tunnel mouth to access the cassette fiddle yard is a tight 4ft radius but i only had to work on one of my locos ,the ivatt 2 6 0 ,a simple matter of widening the gap between loco and tender to enable it to traverse the sharp curve.
