with hindsight i would have made the base boards deeper by 6in but at 6ft by2ft each they are just about managable the joints of each board dictated the track design, re pointwork not being laid across a baseboard joint. i also didnt want to make the layout look overcrowded ,the curve leading into the tunnel mouth to access the cassette fiddle yard is a tight 4ft radius but i only had to work on one of my locos ,the ivatt 2 6 0 ,a simple matter of widening the gap between loco and tender to enable it to traverse the sharp curve.

6x2 sounds big for a board, but i guess it depends how often it needs to be moved.
All layouts are a compromise somewhere and its just a question of finding the balance that suits and I do like the shot of the Pannier coming round the curve

:shock: :shock: "just about" - I'll say!! My layout Withyn Reach is 6ft x 1ft and I struggle to move that safely! I've made a 6ft x 4ft board today for my lad's train set, using 3 4x2 boards... all joined together, they are bordering on the impossible, without any track or scenery...

We have some big boards on Heyside. All have hand holds cut into the ends (now) and are 2-man lifts. The 3 fiddle yard boards are each 7'3'' x 2'9'', 2 of the scenic boards along the front are 8' x 2'', and the one monster corner board occupies a footprint of 6' x 6'. Good job I gave away the other corner board (viaduct section) which took 8' x 4' x 2' of space. When Tony took that home, he had to bring a trailer just for that board. The other problem is the height of the layout, as most of the scenic boards require cases 2 ft high. It is a serious proposition getting that out of the railway room and into an exhibition hall! We'll have to have a pre-exhibition weight training program!

thanks Phill ive now added grab rails to the guards door,and the transfers that i used are hmrs. i just need to find another set of 3 Cs maroon overlays for the comp that i also have ,these overlays seem to be quite hard to find these days so if any members of this forum can help point me in the right direction id be very much obliged

with regard to completing the lima conversion i have now sourced some slaters brass door handles and i am going to try out some matt and satin varnish on some maroon painted scrap clear sheet to see which looks best i also want to fit some winterly couplings to the rear of the coach in order to be able to shunt the cct van. i have winterly couplings on some of my wagons ,which i find most effective when shunting a goods train in the yard ,(no big hand from the sky and no need for magnets to be fitted around the layout )

the station building is a freelance design that i came up with although i trawled through lots of images before coming up with the design . the columns supporting the canopy are left over bits from a dapol water tower kit from my oo modelling days .

Just working my way through the site

Noticed that you use Winterley couplings and I have chosen to use those too - I have been fitting them to stock, they are yet to be used in anger though as layout is still WIP.

How have you got on with them?

What Iike is that the magnets are on board

I also like the Lincs Coupling system too

The fitting of Winterlys to one or two loco types maybe a challenge, especially as the Winterlys are 'ended'. The 03 springs to mind, so I have decided that I shall follow prototype examples and use a Shunter's Gig! :scratch:

Hi CME :wave: re winterly couplings i find them easy to work with though i do occassionally need to tweak them due to hefty shunting with my heljan hymek . they were originally invented for use with tt 3mm scale .with regard to fitting them to a loco with a large buffer beam such as a class 03 maybe fit the loop bar to the loco, although i fitted a wagon with a normal three link coupling at one end and the winterly coupling at the other cheers Chris westernfan

Do you mean all the detail spare sprue's ?, last time I looked they were nearly all listed as sold out
