A bit more work on the turntable by my mate SAD, It is now wired so that I can drive a loco on and off. As at the moment its going to be turned by he has taken the feeds off the running in line and when turned we operate a switch to alter the polarity off the deck. All I have to remember is on each turning to turn the table the opposite way to the way I did it before. The wires com up through the centre of the table ad are soldered to the nearest copper clad sleeper.

There is a slight problem is that the deck won't sit properly because of the wires.

Some packing is required.

Just in case anyone is wondering the turntable is a hacked about Dapol (ex Airfix) shortened to look like a GWR 65 ft table

I think it just about looks the part

The Western is nicely weathered  . Just enough to make it appear as it has been in traffic for a while. I also like the canopy and train shed roof.

I do have aerials to add, but as the layout is set in the early sixties I'm not sure how many homes would have televisions. They will not be added until the houses and hotel have been weathered.

This site gives some good (and to me surprising) data on homes and TVs: TV ownership | BARB

By Jan 1960, of a total of 16.3 million homes, 11 m already had TV.
At Jan 1964, 14.2 m of the total of 16.2 m homes had TV.
In Jan 2016 ,26.5 m of the 27.9 m homes had TV.

I wonder if there were many areas in the early 60s that had either no or poor TV reception? That would have a big effect on aerial populations!

Many Thanks Osgood for that information. perhaps some one on here might know what the South Hams area was like for TV reception in the early sixties.

I think the only way to judge the number of aerials required is to study photographs of the towns in area and period being modelled.

The South West 405 line transmitters were located at Les Platons (Jersey), North Hessary Tor (Dartmoor), Bude, Okehampton, Sidmouth, Redruth, Bodmin and Isles of Scilly.

With the transmitter on North Hessary Tor reception may have been reasonable.
