When I was a kid I was with my Dad in his car, waiting at the level crossing in Radstock. We were about third in the queue and there was the usual long tailback behind us stretching up the Bath Road to Clandown. There was a sudden tap on the window and this somewhat distinguished gentleman politely asked Dad if we would mind letting him in from the side road (Waterloo Road) as he said he had a train to catch. Dad readily agreed so the chap strode back to his car and drew out in front of us – in a lovely dark blue Bentley.
It was not until years later that I realised the obvious identity of the polite gentleman and that the train he had to catch would no doubt be the one soon passing a photogenic location somewhere up on the Mendips!
