Ivo's Bentley

Hi all, Ivo Peters is by far the most celebrated photographer and recorder of the lost Somerset and Dorset Railway. During his many visits to the line he drove a 1951 Bentley NHY581 which has appeared in many pictures and films of the line, both from Ivo himself and other enthusiasts. He would "race" from one vantage point to another so he could record the same train as it made its way along the line.
Sadly both the S&D and Ivo are no longer with us but his Bentley lives on.

Some of you who have seen other posts by me will know that i lack the skills required to post a link so go to youtube and type into the search facility Bala Lake Railway - Dinorwic Slate Trains.
Not the usual WT type of subject i know but a delightful little film showing NHY581 performing the same job today,
Please enjoy and if someone could post the link, magic, cheers all, Rob

Yes but we like the quirky, different and nostalgic here so it is appreciated.
Yes I did enjoy, there are a few nice campsites around Bala lake so we've been a few times with tents, kayaks and bikes and throw in a few steam trains to make the perfect holiday.

It strikes me that the recent Oxford, 1/76 version looks a little pale compared to the original. Maybe t-cut will add some lustre and depth to the colour.

I'm now going to contradict my own statement. I got my Oxford Bentley out. It's not so far off:

The original colour is Bentley midnight blue, apparently when applied to the 4mm model it pretty much looks black so it is quite possible they have gone a little bit lighter, incidentally the original has never been repainted, cheers Rob

Well there is always the Brooklin Models in 7mm, but the price is somewhat different, cheers Rob

I'd guess that it wouldn't be too much work to file the curves to the top and bottom of the windscreen. It'd need a repaint but that might be a blessing as many of the current die cast models reveal greater delicacy once the factory finish is removed. I do this for 'layout' vehicles, but I've a huge tray full of untouched cars, lorries and vans which were bought because I liked them and they were cheap.

My lack of computer skills shows up again, Look up julian53809 on youtube and see what else the owner of NHY581 gets up to, modelling the S&D in O gauge amongst other things, cheers Rob

That's interesting as I recently met a chap who worked at Richardson's garage in the 1950s and who drove the Bentley up to London from Bath to pick up Ivo "after it had been sprayed" - I wonder why it was (re) sprayed? Assuming it's the same Bentley of course. Ivo then drove back to Bath with the chap as passenger, dropped him off at his house and gave him a white five pound note for his trouble, which was more than a weeks wages.

Maybe I'll ask Julian (Peters) about it when I next see him, he may remember something.

That would be good Simon as I'm sure the current owner would be most interested, by the way have you seen it as its not so far from you, cheers Rob
