Hairy Bikers and Other Petrol Heads

Abbotsbury is my favourite branch and I built a model of 202 about 5 years ago using a shapeways 3D print on a homemade chassis with portescap power. it is in use on my exhibition layout Motley End 1907. Thankyou Joe's Garage for the references as I did nor know of them at the time of building. I like other locos but a 517 was the first loco that I built that ran correctly first time. Hence my 'name'. good luck with the project.
You might want to tell us more about your atavar. There’s a petrol heads thread…

Well I will be brief on someone elses blog but its a widecase Ducati 350cc single that I fitted with a close ratio gear set and staightcut primary drive. Now sold sadly. Yes it do go well! I only got into trains due to a sidecar racing crash but I'm glad I did.

Thanks Eastsidepilot. Theres a lifetime to post but I should put my layout on here I guess.
Yes, show us your layout, I'm in the early stages of building mine and will have something to show in the near future.
I started the Hairy Bikers thread as I realised how any of us are petrol heads :D. Tell us more about your biking days.
Your 'Duke' sounds interesting, I had an old mate moons ago who owned a 250 Desmo and I've rode ( or is it ridden ? ) an old mates '80 900 ss on several occasions which I really enjoyed. The only Italian bike I've owned was a Guzzi LeMan shown somewhere in this thread.

Colin doesn’t notice time passing. From 2012:
Thread 'Bow Creek Wharf. c.1946. S7'
Bow Creek Wharf. c.1946. S7
A lot has happened in my life in those last 14 years most of which was non model railway related which did slow things down some what and before anyone says it, no I didn't start planning Bow Creek in 1946 although sometimes it feels like it :)). An up date is forth coming, honest :D

Ah, the DGR.

Unfortunately/fortunately can’t do it. Shall be investigating the railways of Koln.

Maybe next year. Though tweeds are not really my style…

This old Rocker wouldn't be seen dead in tweeds and I doubt I'm very distinguished :)) but good to see 'em dragging the iron horses out for a ride.

Well fellow petrol heads here are some more of my Ducati, my old AJ I owned for 24 years and the much loved BM on the way to Mt Augustus W. Australia.
To get the bike back to firm ground took about 2 hours as no one else came past and I had briused ribs from a get off 2 days before at 130 allegedly, I was very lucky.

I couldn’t do the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride this year due to the risk reduction commitment to my daughter that I would either go flying or biking, not both. But my open-face crash helmet did do the ride on the head of one of my flying chums who only owns a full face helmet. Here it is.

Some rather fuzzy, cropped images from the Cardiff 2026 DGR which captured us lurking in the background.

The changeable weather hereabouts dictated a more sensible dress code of brown leather, shirt and waistcoat which proved to be quite correct, given a couple of quite heavy showers encountered en route.
