Interesting WT was featured in the magazines rather than a specific websites bit I thought...

I found the survey thing quite interesting, although as a 37 year old modeller of post 1980 in S7, I feel like a definite minority in terms of the guild membership :D

I also would not buy a used car (or locomotive) off any of the technical committee based on those pictures, especially not the one on the bottom left! ;)

Hehe, no, it's an optical illusion! :p
I think Ian (Guild News Editor) did very well with the group of very poor photographs submitted to him.

Hi Guys,

Just a couple of points from the May 2015 news.

My take on the survey is....

I make it 30 WT members are Guild members according to the chart.

2 members of WT are technical committee members.

S7 is very much a minority interest within the Guild.

I think you will find most members of the S7 group are Guild members though that would still be a small proportion of the Guild membership as you say. It's a pity that the S7 Group is separate rather than part of the Guild as I think some modellers see it as too separate to join. The Guild manual describers 3 "Guild standards", Coarse scale, fine scale and S7. I'm sure S7 would thrive better from within the Guild.

.....Based on the photos, I would only buy a loco from the guy on the bottom left!:D

The group long ago took the view that it was happier being outside the Guild, but affiliated to it. I think some discussion about the possibility of merging with the Guild took place at last year's AGM. It does crop up from time to time. As an affiliated society, there are some benefits, some disbenefits, but on the whole it seems to work.

The S7 group is there as a support organisation for those who wish to follow the standards. The committee has always been aware of modeller who use the standards but don't want to join the group. It's a minority interest, yes, in the same way P4 is compared to 00. ;)

In the end, it makes no difference. As long as we are all happy playing trains, I - for one - couldn't really care less about what gauge and standard they're built to.

I'm not questioning how many S7 modelers are or are not Guild members.......I don't actually care. I'm merely pointing out the they are a very small minority group within the Guild.
