No top hat flange but hoping that will not be a problem.

Then set up the Poppies jig.

So nowhere near perfect 0.21 mm out.
My reaming or broaching the holes was out too. As the hand made bush would fit one end of the rod boss but not the other. Now what!?
Cheers for looking in and the likes folks.

Hi Peter, I’ve actually done more modelling over the summer than I ever have with this Peco thing!
Will need to finish it in 23 days to be eligible, it’s not close to what others are producing, but I’m enjoying it and enjoying having a deadline weirdly!

I'm watching this build with great interest. I still have the original MRJ set of castings for this project and a completed rolling chassis. I decided to use the split axles as in the original design. Unfortunately, this project came to a halt around 1998 when I emigrated to NZ.... Ho-hum. I did build the 7mm version (the video of it running is on You Tube) with DCC. Good luck keep up the great work!

Hi Ian thanks for the encouragement!
It will resume over the winter. Though the discrepancy on the coupling rods is a niggle, I’m not sure what to do about.
Got a link to your YouTube video?

Pleased you managed to find the video. I did tweak the original design here and there, but by and large it's as published. Regarding coupling rod issue, because of the very small dimensions/tolerances in the frames any discrepancy when fitting the axle bearings and couping rods will be cruelly magnified. IIRC when Paul Berntsen designed this I'm sure the frames were specified as nickel silver for greater rigidity. Brass IMHO is too flexible, the protoype has a well tank with associated bracing which aids with frame stiffness. I would suggest trying a couple of NS strips sweat soldered inside to help beef-up the frame. Although personally, I would use a NS frame (I did) rebuild to eliminate at least one variable. Keep your chin up!

When I did my etches (for myself as Shannon and Robin Gay as No 5 -currently on the circuit with Wantage in P4) I did them in .4mm NS so they were a bit more rigid, she is a difficult one to build but possible. Mine is in OO and Robin's is in P4, I also did the etches in 7mm because she's such a sweetie.

Cheers Ian & Dave,
There is a well tank in NS to go in thanks as ever Dave! and plenty of spare NS on the etch.
Yeah I was lucky enough to see Robins P4 model on the circuit when he brought it to Rail Wells a couple of summers ago.

'Shannon' is getting to a very interesting stage now.
Can I ask you to describe your choice of wheels?
The range of 3ft diameter drivers is not large.....

Hi Peter,
Unfortunately I bought the wheels 25 or 26 years ago when Laurie Griffins article was in the MRJ.

I thought they could of been Markits Romford no longer available.
Dave went for Gibsons 7 years ago!
Blimey this is the longest build in history!
Snips below from over on RMWeb you may find useful.
I posted across both forums.
