7mm The next project. (B1)

When I do the next one I'm adding a second tube plate, say 20 mm from the front, or closer if you choose as it'll be a sliding wall inside the boiler.

I already have some thin wall tube, which is 1.20 mm OD / 1.00 mm ID and fits in the holes after a little twizzle with a broach. The real tubes are 2-1/16" which works out pretty close to 1.20 mm, the super heater tubes are 5-3/8" and the tube plate etch is 3.0 mm with cusp removed which is close enough for me. Macc models do a thin wall 3.00 mm tube with a wall thickness of 0.255 mm, Eileens too.

So. solder in from behind liberally and leave a small bit sticking out, then if the over thick wall bothers me I'll just tweak with a broach to thin the front rim, mind a 0.1 mm rim looks pretty decent anyway for the main tubes; but the super heater tubes might need opening out with a drill a bit first.

I already checked both sized holes in preparation and the etch was designed just in case I decided to visit JB in his padded cell

Or, you can just leave the door shut ;)

I have been inside a smokebox and it is all very black and dark in there even with the door open! Once you get the superheater header and steam pipes in it will be quite busy too so raised tube ends could well be invisible.

Really nice Mick!!

Just occured to me.. What will you do for castings? 3d modelling for masters or bought in from elsewhere?

An A8, oh b****r, rather like the look of them, actually a decent V1/3 would be v (more) useful and desirable.:D

This is in danger of getting into wish list territory, so let's rein it in and restrict comments to the B1 and direct spin offs therefrom.

A5?

A5???

A5?????

Surely an A5 is a Robinson engine - or at least a class for which engines were ordered under Gresley  .
Yes it is, but why stop with Thompson ;)

The K4 is Gresley, the A1 & A2 Peppercorn, the A8 is Raven / Gresley and I forgot to add one of my favorites, the Robinson 9K (LNER C13)

There are some big holes in ER engine kits, some are already filled by others, so due consideration would taken there before committing, if at all, in which case they become personal projects. But, there are enough holes to keep one busy for the immediate future.

It's simply a list I have and it makes sense to pick items that enhance your current range whilst opening new avenues. It's also very liquid and can change dependent on circumstances and data collection.

As Richard notes, the current vein is the B1 and other engines that use common parts like (potentially) the 01 and L1.

The A5 and A8 are personal build projects and have no place here, I'll open a new thread as and when they come alive.

The A5's were running out of Liverpool St for a short time whilst the turntable was out of action and covering for the Brit's..

What !.... no B17 :D
You're a very naughty boy;), we don't let all of the cats out of the bag at once

Seriously though, there's plenty of holes to fill first and the B17 is served by DJH which puts it in the secondary engines to consider.
