Hi Tim,

The boats arrived intact sometime on or before Thursday, I did PM you on Friday with my thanks.

Thanks.

And now back to a bit of modelling, I have got the basics of the first pair of doors sorted, it took a couple of attempts to get a satisfactory result.

The doors are just roughly placed in position, whilst I consider how to proceed.

OK, a little more work done.

Low 14.jpg

A rail added for the door runners and a top for a pelmet to protect the gubbins from the weather.

Pelmet front and doors placed in situ until I have painted the main building, as I don't know what might be visible when put in place. Opps! looks like a bit of filler is need around the window.

Just by way of a quick update, before I go on holiday. I foolishly volunteered to build an 'N' gauge turnout for a club layout as the Peco one was causing problems, it has taken me a lot, lot longer to construct than all the trackwork on here. I still don't know if it works, as the other club members have yet to sort a switching mechanism.

Before I left, I plonked all the wagons on the layout and the bits and pieces of low relief buildings, as a sort of state of the layouts current progress.

Sorry about the quality, of some of the snaps and the general detritus spread about the place, but it was a last minute effort to catch the ferry, back last night.

Hi Richard,

Yes that holiday ended and I have had several more since, the next one starts in 10 days time. I'm glad that my modelling efforts are providing you with some inspiration. I have enjoyed the journey as far as I have progressed, thus far. I will be well chuffed (pun intended) if it works, without to many faults.

Although the actual layout has seen no real progress in recent times, I'm trying to build a couple of locos, so that I can test it. I thought that a couple of Nucast tank engines would be a relatively easy task, but they are severely trying my patience. I'm signed up for a weekend at Missenden Abbey, in the vain hope that I can put them to bed.

I have also been trying to sort out gremlins on Ruan a club exhibition layout, I have stripped out the wiring, but random faults keep occurring, since it was at the Bristol show in May.

Yesterday I got the backscene fitted, but not without incident and a fair bit of swearing, I started at the left-hand end and all was good, I thought, but as I turned the corner the backscene started running up hill and it was well stuck to the double-sided tape. I cut my losses by cutting it at the baseboard joint, this left a gap of about 4 mm at the top and nothing at the bottom. The 2nd half went fairly well, but isn't quite flat at the join. To hide these faux pas, I will be erecting a couple of chimneys to cover them up.

As you can see it's at its most noticeable when looking from left to right.
The light and the backscene really are effective Phil!

Thanks Simon,

I can adjust the brightness/dimness of each of the two strings to give different effects, for working, I crank both strings up to full, it definitely helps to see what I'm about.

It will be good to get something up and running, but getting a couple of club exhibition layouts in a fit state to show and suitable stock has much reduced the time to do much.
