Looking great. Saw something the other day, and before you start ballasting, have a look at the vacuum ballasting device. Sheer witchcraft!

As Dave @S-Club-7 has shown above the mess I made :D was in connection with fitting the pit on the loco servicing road behind the up platform.
Here's the result of that below. The longitudinal timbers will have L1 bridge chairs fitted for the rail.
Still work to be done.

IMG_1141.JPG

John @Oz7mm had drawn up the pub and laser cut a mock-up as a test piece which Robin @Boyblunder assembled.

The Vicars daughter don't look to 'Bobby Moore' though !

It was pretty much decided to move the water tower over to a position behind the down platform. This frees up space at the far end of the loco
road where the bothy is to be located.

IMG_1147.JPG

It looks as if the decorating has started in the staff cottages before the builders have finished.

IMG_1139.JPG

And finally the view down the cutting with all the clutter included !. Starting to look like the urban setting we want to achieve.

First up this week is the relocated water tower which, several years ago, was "temporarily borrowed" from West Mersea but has now been bedded down in its new location on Love Lane.

Two rather large holes in the brickwork were filled by some vents (drawn and fitted by yours truly, 3d-printed by @Boyblunder ), just awaiting the painting team to return from Ireland. My wife was somewhat distressed by the fact that the vanes don't open and close... :(

Hanging basket liner forms the long dead grass; a fascia panel has been promised by @Eastsidepilot to tidy up the edges.

Meanwhile, back at the new bridge...

...which is currently off-site for some paintwork. This view begins to capture the urban feel that we're trying to recreate at this end of the layout. The shop backs on the left were inspired by Brook Mews, Chigwell. The patch of ground between the cottages and the road will eventually be allotments but is currently a convenient spot for tools, building materials, surplus infrastructure, and sunbathers...

The vicar's daughter and her bosom buddy still enjoying the June 1960 sunshine. I wonder where they are now?

20250611_170304.jpg
Still sunbathing obviously. At the far end of the row of shops is the Godden Arms.

Railway? What railway?

@Oz7mm appears in one of this week's photos; no prizes for spotting him. :)
