Thanks for the interest. I have been thinking about this, and realised that there is no real digital record of the station anymore, after the 2009 and later loss of images elsewhere beyond one or two scatterings on FB groups so, as I have several more gathered and saved - I didn't keep overmuch earlier days, and a hard drive collapse some years ago lost a lot more, so rather than add them to the spasmodic current thread I think I will post a separate layout one concentrating on it alone in a day or two. A case of watch another space soon...

Hot off the press - BR 77xxx on its first photo shoot to find all the flaws the eye misses. A hotch pot of Bachmann bits - 82xxx tank upper boiler and smokebox and cut back 76xxx lower boiler and cab and an old Mainline tender, it being the only type I had around. It has various flaws/ shortcuts but if you apply the 3' rule it just about passes muster. Now back to the bench for a final fettling.20260428_000901.jpg20260428_000913.jpg

As an aside, here is my work on a Pop Up HR wooden water tank. They are supplied as accurate carcasses for the modeller to finish as they wish, and scrub up to rather attractive buildings with a bit of attention. I scribed courses onto the surface and then distressed the surface with a three sided scriber, then finished with primer and a base coat of a stone colour and some drybrushing. The tank edges were rounded off but apart from the addition of a brass lever it is the basic kit. I altered the windows to match the Thurso tank - the kit is based on Garve.20260507_173211.jpg20260506_163251.jpg

Nice work on the tank. Can I ask how you managed to cover up the corner finger joints please. I have examined the kits and they have some relevant to my interest but disguising the fingers looked beyond my skill set.

The finger joints aren't really a problem; I make sure they are flush and then fill them with Plastic Putty or Fine Polyfilla. I usually cover the kit with plasticard or paper but this one was an experiment and if I ever find the time I'm going to do another larger one. When scribing the horizontal courses I made sure the four sides more or less matched up, and then it was a case of a razor saw at the corners to break up the 90 degree to something more rounded, followed by a bit of filing to tidy it up. I also razored a course line in the fingers as it was easier than a scalpel.
The thought behind Pop Up - started by a retired design teacher at Gordonstoun as a social enterprise company supporting orphans in Guatemala - when he and Iain met up to do the railway side of things , was to provide a solid base that the modeller could finish to his or hers own needs, with all the research and basic work done for them. and as the designer is doing all his work as a pro bono retirement hobby it has given the ScR modeller a great boost to create an authentic layout.
