Still in the 1930’s and we find a Red Jubilee on shed. IMG_2655.png
There temporarily as it’ll be stripped, a few new castings added plus a combined dome and top feed and will return as Kempenfelt another of Shrewsburys jubilees that found their way down to Cardiff often working Banana traffic out of Barry docks to the north.IMG_2654.png

This one needed a little remedial work so I popped into see Dan Haines yesterday an it looks like we have sorted the issue out. IMG_2678.png

Back for another weekly visit to Canton IMG_2722.png
Today we find an ex works 7007 Great Western visiting from Worcester shed, newly fitted with a double chimney in 1961! IMG_2721.png
Rubbing shoulders with Ebbw Junctions baby castle 2243 and local resident 70019 Lighting. IMG_2720.pngBaby castle and a big castle IMG_2719.png
Didcot’s 6340 on shed with a local std 3 tank, not regular visitors to Canton so may be in for fitters attention. IMG_2718.png
2243 again, these engines where regulars on the Brecon trains IMG_2716.png
7007 won’t need much attention from Cantons cleaners today IMG_2715.pnglooking down off the steps, Will the shift foreman be kind to us today ? IMG_2714.pngLighting is still a regular on the Londons in her last year at Canton she along with the rest of the allocation will be gone at the end of the summer timetable September 61 IMG_2713.png
And a final view of 7007

The spotters will be bouncing off the walls at Canton today as Swanseas only Fairburn tank is on shed along side newly renamed 6836 Estevarney Grange and renumbered 5164 both from Pontypool Road shed.
42182 has been painted and weathered by Paul Moore and he also painted up the plates for the other pair.
Lastly I’ve printed off a PDF that has an outline of the shed that’s being produced by Intentio. I’ve got some foam board sheets coming so a mock up of the shed can be made.IMG_2756.pngIMG_2757.pngIMG_2759.pngIMG_2758.pngIMG_2760.pngIMG_2761.pngIMG_2763.pngIMG_2762.pngIMG_2764.pngIMG_2765.png

Rewinding the clock back to the 1930’s again today on Canton.
I like breathing new life into older models and all three will get the BR treatment at some point. I’ve got a few that need stripping detailing and then a new coat of paint,
These will eventually emerge as Caernarfon,
Glastonbury Abbey and Kempenfelt.
45515 turned up on Canton in 1961 working a Shrewsbury Diagram, Shrewsbury Cardiff, then Cardiff Swansea Parcels and return via the central wales line, however she failed at Neath and was on Neath Shed for two weeks waiting for a repair.IMG_2790.pngIMG_2789.pngIMG_2786.pngIMG_2787.pngIMG_2785.pngIMG_2783.pngIMG_2784.png

Cardiff Canton Phase 2 marked out.
It may end up being a little narrower than this, I’ll know tomorrow when I measure the water crane to determine how far it swings and adjust the outer road.
One 300mm shallow pit, one 400mm shallow pit and one deep extra long at 1600mm pit for the road next to the running shed will be purchased from Intentio designs. I’ve got a pair of Ragstone buffer stops and a ModelU GW water crane here ready to go.
Peco track and hand built will be used with the sleepers respaced on the Peco. Most of it will be covered in filth.IMG_2855.jpeg

I’ve taken 4” off the new section and made some alterations to the original board, IMG_2869.jpeg
There’s still some more modifications to make but I’ll need the shed kit first IMG_2864.jpeg
The round house openings will need widening.
IMG_2866.jpegfoam board used to mock up the shed side and the front of the roundhouse and side of the repair shop IMG_2868.jpegIMG_2867.jpegIMG_2863.jpeg
