Building a Mike Trice designed Gauge 3 GNR open wagon

I thought it best to start a new thread for this, rather than monopolise Mike Trice's. I am a kit manufacturer, so tend not to write about my own models on here as I think it smacks of free advertising. However, since the largest parts of this one were not made by me and I have no commercial interest in Newland 3D who supply the prints, I hope management will allow this account. I also hope that members find some interest in it.

Here are the parts supplied by Newland 3D. They are from Mike Trice's files, but adapted for Gauge 3. The material is apparently PETG plastic. It may look like nylon, but unlike nylon you can file and sand it.

I can't photograph it tonight Mike, but I don't see a problem. The groove between the headstock and the first plank is perhaps less pronounced than the others, but it is there.

Hoping to get fixed version reuploaded over the next couple of days. Apologies to anyone that has downloaded them.

It is surprising how many times I have looked at these, as have others, and not spotted it.

This is the core of the chassis and this bit is designed by me. Simple and cheap laser cut 20g (0.9mm) steel parts which locate with slots and tabs and then soft soldered, making a 4-wheeled running unit. It is quite strong, but once fixed to the floor and the solebars it is even stronger.100_2225.JPG

Not easy to photograph a white wagon, but it does encourage me to wash my hands frequently! Think I understand your point about the board mark Mike. I assumed that the bottom plank was wider, but are you saying that the floor is visible on the end, so the missing line is 3in (or whatever) above the bottom of the lower plank? All the official GNR photos are taken at exactly the wrong angle so you can't see that! I won't attempt to add it.

By the way, In this picture I have just nicked off the very bottom corners of the corner plates because my buffer guides interfere with them and don't sit quite flat. I guess the bases of my guides must be 5 thou too large in diameter.

Correct. There is the equivalent board mark on the sides. In such a large scale it should be relatively easy to scribe the missing rebate in.

Yes, it probably would be easy for some people to scribe in the mark. It means going around the end stantions, getting all three sections lined up, matching the other marks. What is the material like to scribe - will it scuff ....? I am not expert on GNR wagons like you, but some types of LNWR wagon did have wider bottom end planks whilst other types did not, so I'm happy that only you and me ... and now a few hundred other people ... know about it.

I don't know - the prototype photo from Mike T also appears to have a small chamfer on the corner plate to fit around the buffer guide.
