1/32 16Ton wagon 3D print builds + others

Hi Guys,

Well hopfully this'll be the start of my 1/32 adventure again after a false start a few years back.

I recently aquired an 04 and then a 3D printed Class 25 plus a couple of 16 tonners from a fellow WT member, the later on a bit of whim...!!

Anyhow,i've decided to make an all be it 'slow' start on the 16 tonners first, so one question first; what adhesives are suitable for the materials that these are made with especialy as i want to add a brass floor to the wagons for weight and stiffness..

Hi James,
These are designed and produced by Simon br Blue..
Not sure if there still avalible as these were printed via shapeways.
Here's a thread of an earlier 25/1 he's done.
Thread '1/32 class 25 3 D print'
It's from 2019...don't seem tk be able to paste in a link ... !!

A bit of an up date,

The Cl.25/3 has been moved on but we have a brass 20 ton brake van and some Fred Phipps vans to build also...well at some point.. :)
Cheers,
Brian.

Work has started on the 3 16 tonner's,

Have added slater brass bearings to the axle boxes and then the floor to the chassis with.020 thou plasticard followed by .064 thou aluminum sheet to the inside for a little extra weight. This will be covered with another .020 thou piece of plasticard.

I was going to do this in brass, but could'nt justifi the extra cost and with the slaters wheel sets there'll be sufficient weight as they'll only be used on a shunty layout.

A little more done to the minerals....
Have fitted the three links to the wagons and just super glued them in.
Tried filing out the holes so i could use them with the springs, but gave up as whatever there made of is really unforgiving...IMG_20260603_200213.jpg
Once they were fixed in i thought i'd give them a coat of paint,so rustoleum satin black for the underframes and halfords grey primer for the bodies.IMG_20260604_180910.jpgIMG_20260604_180754.jpg

Whilst there starting to look better,i'm still not too sure about the rough'ish look of the 3d printed bodies..
Hopfully they'll look better once i start the weathering at a later date, but for now just need to get them together..

Cheers,
Brian.

Not alot happening at the moment so i thought i'd pull out the 04 and a NE/BR brake van that have i recently brought.
IMG_20260605_201850.jpg
So the 04 is as you can see currently blue, this i'm thinking will probably be re-painted black so i can model some older types of stock, say like a 5 and a 7 plank 1923 RCH wagon....of which i've just picked one each of the Northern finscale models which were advertised as 1:32,so i'm hoping that they are actually 1:32 as i've only ever seen these list as 10mm....

As for the brake van that is a Cromford Models kit, which incidently i also have a set of etches for another to build....or not...!!. Anyhow not sure if this will stay as is or go grey, but it does need a bit of fettling first though..

Even in just 3ft, G1 has a presence...

Try using a filler primer first, perhaps a couple of coats, then sand back the flat surfaces with wet and dry. Makes a world of difference with 3D prints.

Hi Mike,
I had thought to start with they might not be too bad,but then with the primer it really shows the print.
So yes i think your right, a primer filler might be the way go.

Hi Julian,

Yes it was the 04 that started it all off again, but hopfully this time i'll actualy get round to finishing of builds....
I did see the picture of your 03 in a post not so long ago, which made me think i need to find one for myself again..!!

BTW,good to hear from you..
Cheers,
Brian.

So following Mike Trice's advise ,i have given the wagons a couple of coats of filler primer.(about four light coats if i'm honest)
IMG_20260608_205414.jpg
So after some sanding,i've given one a quick light coat of Railmatch #1322 (BR early wagon grey )to see how they'll turn out.

Whilst there never going to be perfectly flat,i am much happy with them
and when weathered should look the part..!!
Cheers,
Brian.

Given the 16 tonners their final coat of grey, but before i post pic's i just need to touch up the underframes and paint the wheelsets..

In the meantime i thought i'd sort out a couple of my US items that needed slight repairs and then i started one of two Northern Finescale kits i picked up last week ,a 1923 RCH 7 plank wagon.(side door only)
The wagon came with a Peter Korzillius chassis which i've used along with some white metal axle boxes from the bits box, along with the slaters bearings once the openings were widend to take them.IMG_20260613_214504.jpg
So as you can see i've used 3 hole wheelsets rather than the open spoke ones and have kept the original buffers too.
One thing i found was that one side of the underframe was shorter than the other,so a bit of plasticard was used.. (white bit in pic)
Sticking with the underframe i've had to modifi the kits plastic one piece brake rigging, by cutting it apart so the brake shoes are closer to the wheels.IMG_20260613_214422.jpg
Still a bit to do but at least it's started..!
Cheers
Brian.

Just realised the underframe sides are on upside down...!!
Fortunately that's easy enough to sort..
