Sir Lamiel’s 777 Quest - A Scale7 Micro Layout Challenge

Sir Lamiel was just a bit-part in the annals of Arthurian Legend; he didn’t even get his own Quest. A Cardiff-born knight, little is written of his back story. Many of you will know of him as Urie King Arthur class, Sir Lamiel, No.777. Hence he is the mascot of our own modest Scale7 Micro Layout Challenge.

Should you choose to accept it, the “777 Quest” is simple:

“To build a micro layout (or diorama) featuring track to Scale7 standards, with a scenic area of not more than 7 square feet, with a minimum of 7 feet of track”

We have deliberately not called this a competition; the real prize is the pride in completing a layout of your devising. There are some wonderful S7 layouts on the circuit (Love Lane comes to mind), however we do not all have the space to take on such projects. The hope is that this challenge will appeal to both seasoned builders and those yet to venture into building their own layout.

We will arrange for layouts to have an opportunity to be displayed, with the goal of displaying “Work in Progress” in autumn 2026 and “Completed” layouts in Autumn 2027 at venue or venues to be confirmed (arrangements depend on how many accept the noble quest!).

I clicked on the link, got the End of line screen, then logged into my membership box and then the 777 screen was K and able to read, seem like you have to login to read the content.

Sorry everyone.

Entirely my fault. In spite of testing the link, I failed to spot that it was restricted to Committee only which is why Paul and Tim above were able to log in and see the page. My other tester was also a Committee member!

All now fixed so get building all you S7 people!

Please what is "Scala Septem Sancti Graalis"?

I went to a state school and we didn't do Latin there, and Google Translate says "The Seven Ladders of the Holy Grail"

It is "ScaleSeven Holy Grail" but I think Google went to the same school as you did Richard!

I don't think Latin speakers would have understood scala to equate to proportio, and the concept of 7 small measurements in one measuring system being used to represent one unit of a totally different measuring system would probably have fried their brains. On the other hand a dog latin motto for a Arthurian legend inspired event is not inappropriate.

For those who have gone metric 7 square feet works out to 0.65 m2. Quite a reasonable area, 2m x 325mm, 1.5m x 433mm etc.

Edit: The AI locomotive on the shield looks like 6 NA (the green one on the Puffing Billy Railway) has met Thomas the Tank engine.
