There are some very charming continental locations out there- I have just spent a few days on the island of Lindau in the Bodensee(Lake Constance) which is bordered by Bavaria, Austria and Switzerland. Plenty of light railway industry (they are building the new Tyne and Wear metro trains around there) . Lindau itself is a tiny island with basically a harbour, the old and new lighthouse, a mediaeval town, and the station which also has an old customs shed and remains of a train ferry terminal. It’s just crying out to be modelled.
Morning Fitz,

Sounds rather lovely. The Italian Job on the Peco board hasn't been fully discounted and I can carry on with it for a while yet before I need to decide on the location etc.

Well, a week ago, I was at Stowrail with Sheep Dip in rather grand surroundings.

Things went reasonably well though I have a niggling, intermittent, short to attend to.

Next day out is to Minehead, next Saturday. Originally I was down to demo scenic stuff but following a substitution in time added on, Sheep Dip will be coming with me. So, I'd better get on with locating the short !

This afternoon has seen me carrying out a bit of maintenance on D3509, Sheep Dip's resident 350hp shunter.

Prior to Stow, I'd overlooked fitting replacement air tanks, noticing this as I ran it into Sheep on the first train of the day. I briefly wondered why it looked a bit 'light ' at the front end, then the penny dropped.

The tanks are courtesy of Mudmagnet Models and really make a difference. I've also cleaned the wheels and checked things over and hopefully, all is well.

I also took a few photos as despite 3509 cropping up all over the place, being the first diesel I weathered, I'm quite attached to it.

Morning all,

Well, a good day yesterday.

Dave, Rob and the clubmembers from the Exmoor Coast Railway Modellers provided their usual warm welcome at Minehead, which is the norm at this lovely show.

A lovely run down, along a rather foggy M5, then an essentially traffic free jaunt along the A38 brought about an early arrival. A swift erection followed by not one but TWO bacon rolls set me up for a nice, rather chatty day. Quite a few RmWeb faces popped in along the way, and it was good to chat to Phil O.
I was very brave, purchase wise, but did succumb to a really nice 3D yard crane from Richard Slate, aka Mudmagnet Models, which is based on an example at Verwood. It looks like a really nice little project. As ever, Richard's print is really crisp and looking to need little in the way of cleaning up. It's just what I needed and will end up either on Sheep Dip or the new layout.

Talking of Sheep Dip, it behaved reasonably well but I can't put off sorting out the electrical gremlins for too much longer. Switching to DCC has highlighted the short ( !) comings of it's toytown electrics and this must be sorted before the trip to Uckfield, as well as fitting stay alives to pretty much all locos which will be used on it.

The day ended with a good run home, via a pause at Tesco Minehead to succesfully stock up on Otter beer.

So that's essentially it in terms of layout exhibiting until Uckfield, though Ewe does have a walk on part at Scaleforum in September.

Rob,

Good to see you yesterday, in a suitably loud shirt, that the Spam Can man would be proud of.

Was that chap looking for Mr Punch?

Morning Phil,

That nice chap is another Phil, aka Harlequin on RmWeb who not only creates very nice arty track plans but also produces very, very nice 3D printed GWR Yard cranes.
I have to agree with you. Pretty certain that the above loud shirt is an item of clothing that Pencarrot would love to have in his wardrobe. Obviously wouldn't carry it off as well as yours truly and not sure of how it would come across on T.V.
