Intriguing - not an easy project.
Hi Adrian, it's with the help of someone else on this forum who has the skills and machinery that I do not. He will be making quite a few of the parts which I hope to be able to put together. I just hope that I have the skills to make a good job of it.

I'm out of date as to what is available now, but what wheels will you be using?

Since my cover has now been blown ... the parts were mostly done on my CNC mill, though with some hand finishing, e.g. the slots and the smaeer holes.

Okay guys, I know where you're going with this one. All I'm saying is that I have the Precedent to paint, an 8-wheel coach (Mike WIlliams sides and ends) to build, and whatever parts John wants. That will keep me busy for a while. Oh, and Ian Harper has a very nice live steam model of Pandora in G3 that has appeared on various garden layouts and in the G3S Newsletter.

Some more parts for John. You would be forgiven for thinking that the footplate angles are etched, but they are done on the CNC mill. F360 makes it very easy to add tabs to the machining file to hold the component in place during cutting, which is important for such delicate parts. I've removed part of the material and cleaned up the top edges of the angles, leaving John to do the rest when they are firmly soldered into place.

Similarly, I've left material holding the two sides of the footplate together at the front, that can be removed when assembled.

Nick,

Which mill are you using, please?

thx

Simon,

It's home made, based on Sherline components. I haven't published much about it because I can't imagine anyone will want to do anything similar, but since there is some interest I will search out some photos and post something.

Thanks Nick, I’ll look forward to it - I might very much want to do something similar!

I did kick off a thread about “cheapo CNC” some years back, you could add to that if you wanted to group it with other CNC milling (and if the flippant thread title doesn’t put you off!)

Thread 'Cheapo CNC Milling'
Cheapo CNC Milling
