Life can be a pain.

I experienced a paper tsunami last Tuesday. Shelving erected some 9 years ago using top of range aluminium system announced rather spectacularly that it was overloaded and threw in the towel.

I jumped away and was unhurt and observe that the only permanent damage is to a lot of cardboard magazine holders and my dignity.

I am now replacing it with proper steel Spur system but am slow because I need help with holding an SDS drill at top of step ladder.

Then to reinstate the paper load.

No modelling for two weeks as I must clear the dining room which is out of normal use being piled up with stray paper……..

Today I am entertained by chaps fitting a new garage door to replace the one vandalised in early May.

The shelf fitting has progressed somewhat, 2 verticals fully screwed to wall, 3rd has 3 of 4 fixings done, 4th awaits hefting heavy SDS drill to the top. No fun in 80% humidity and 33.5 degrees......H&S nightmare!
The fitting of the 4th and final upright requires drilling more holes in a position temporarily inaccessible until garage door fitting is finished.

Garage door all done, insurance covers £1k of cost, rest is my excess to pay.

Shelves mostly up but I am short of two brackets so one shelf awaits a trip to hardware shop.
Despite being highly qualified in Maths apparently I can't count, I blame it on the heat addling my brain.
Large amount of books and files restored so dining room nearly back inro use. Senior Management is almost happy.

Back to CMS bogies later today, YAIeee

Paul,

Just caught up on your thread! Noting the comment on the SLW Class 25,I can say from my experience with the Class 24 that they are certainly not lacking grunt! We had a very impressive display of one handling 25+ coaches on Barrow Road with ease. I can't remember the total number added in the end, but suffice to say it was the couplings on the curves that gave up the fight before we managed to cause the Class 24 any haulage challenges. I too upgraded mine to DCC and sound and am very impressed with the model and service from SLW. I look forward the hearing/reading about the multigauge track cleaning trials!

Well, 5 weeks on I can report some progress with the CMX BG conversion. The bogies to HO to BG is the easy bit, using my standard .007" x 10mm phosphor bronze strip to enlarge the stretcher attached by 12BA screws to the original cut plastic stretcher. This gives a nice twisty torsion bar suspension which copes well with the bumps due to the heavy tank.

Modifying/replacing the brass skid for mixed NG/BG is more challenging. I need it to clean the outer pair of rails and clear the inner (NG only ) rail as it is naive to think it can rub all 3 rails together
A larger skid is no problem, it is just a slab of brass, nor is milling away the centre underside to clear the NG rail. The bit to solve is emulating the nifty CMX spring clip securing the cloth to the skid as I need two on the outer areas.
When I have made the new skid I will trial it with the centre section of cloth left loose so not really touching the NG rail and only one clip required so I can use the original.

There has been another distraction but at least it is an MR one.
At recent BGS sale of the late Roger White's locos and stock I bought a few and came to realise that I need extra cassettes and a second stock box.
So while awaiting the rebuilding of my milling machine to enact the groove in the new CMX skid I have done a load of carpentry and got the stock box finished and the cassettes to the point where they can safely go from Traverser to SB. They still need the fiddly electric connections adding on their ends.

The mill had to be demolished and moved to allow chaps work space to change the garage door ( see above ). It is now rebuilt and in its working postion but awaits restoring of the XY table. That is too heavy for me alone so awaits visiting muscle.......Tim is unavailable due to a dog taking chunks from his leg and Patrick skived off to Norfolk on holiday.......ain't it all complicated ?
