I guess now the PECO Rail200 board has arrived it's time to start a layout thread here. Essentially it's a very very little known Welsh BR narrow gauge depot set in the late 70's early 80's. Some specials are run by BR using preserved locos. There's a fading BR passenger service and some domestic coal traffic with general goods just about hanging on.

I understand Di-deitl could well mean "untitled" in Welsh.

What to do about point control? It's a tiny board, so electric control is starting to seem "pointless", yes, I'm here all week....

So rod in tube or just switchy finger throw? It will eventually be DCC control.

I do have three Seep motors a bag of microswitches and a spare CDU kicking around, just need a power supply, I guess this is still an option...

Maybe install the point motors now and see them working. Then take them out for the competition and put them back afterwards. Keep the Peco over-centre springs until the point motors are back for good.

For this layout I'm trying to use up items already in stock, so my simple PM2 Seeps and keeping the spring. My stash of servo point motors are for my EM efforts, plus they don't fit under this board anyway. If I'm going to wire up the electrofrogs, I may as well stick in the Seeps.

Beat me to it..... :)

Is my finger DC or DCC controlled?

Cheers

Ok, so the points control is likely to be Seep with Peco microswitches. The Seeps have long arms and not much height, so are perfect for the shallow baseboard.

Next up, signalling, I do want to get at least the droppers in, so this needs to be right, below are my thoughts on seventies BR practise, any good? I assumed I didn't need a colour light signal above the ground signal, but just a left arrow. The exit is protected by two 2-aspect colour light signals as an NG line would be slow speed anyway. Possibly more stop boards on the two shed roads?

At Dinas WHR, they have a ground frame controlling the two points to the headshunt. A token could enable the use of the ground frame, but a colour light stop signal would still be needed to control the running line in the trailing direction?

Can anyone recommend working 4mm colour light ground signals please? I see Train-Tech, Eckon and DCC Concepts sell them.
Cheers

Why would you need a signal, there should be nothing else coming the other way, because you should not be able to release a 2nd token from the box, until the one in the ground frame has been put back into a token machine, assuming that you're using an Annetts key. A plain token with a frame key on it, also is the same, only one token, so only one train, previous trains may have proceeded on ticket and staff regulations.

Thank you @Phil O much appreciated. I guess for a busier depot that I am trying to portray, having one token doesn't work as it means you can only have one engine in the depot? I would therefore think I could upgrade the ground frame to an (intermediate?) block post which would allow more trains into the depot? There would only be need for a ground signal at the entrance and exit, as the main line would be protected by it being a block post?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks

This is where I ended up at the end of the weekend. Paper mache well on its way, I'm following Gordon Gravett's advice in his Modelling Landscape book. I have made a recess for the ground frame box, and in my world the sighting for the signalman is good.
