Being a computer numpty, could you expand on how to rescale these to 7mm?
No long words please.
Bob
If you are going to rescale, probably not wise to use the pre-supported files. Current files assume a 2mm axle bearing so model might need adjusting to suit 7mm scale bearings. If anyone has done this in the past, I'd like to know how it went.

I've been intending to make a couple of those for over ten years! Mike, with your knowledge of the CAD and any alterations you needed to make it to look right in 4mm, do you think it would scale up to Gauge 3? That's a big increase. I'm not interested in anything below the solebars - just the body detail I'm thinking of.
Thanks
Mike

I always add as much detail as possible. They should scale up ok but you might want to omit any loops and chains and replace with something more detailed.

Thanks Mike. I don't print myself, so will ask a friend. I'd prefer to delete horse hooks, buffers etc too, but if push comes to shove I could do that on the print.
Thanks

I should add that if you are ok using modelling software, included in the downloaded files is an .obj file containing the original objects as opposed to the exported .stl files. These should be easier to edit and remove unwanted extraneous detail.

I would be interested in hearing how you get on.

Mike, you asked me to let you know how it goes. I don’t have enough need to justify a printer and learning how to use it, so I asked a friend Ant (of this parish) if he thought it would scale up. Within a couple of hours he replied that he’d let me know in the morning when the print had finished! He’s printed the complete body with no buffers, no solebar and no floor. It came out perfect size and all the detail was crisp. The slot for the coupling is too large for Gauge 3, but that’s easy to alter and expected in a scale-up.

Ant trades as Newland3D but this was done as a favour and not commercially. I have most of the fittings from my GNR van kit, so now the pace slows down, but I will post when its finished, or at least when its further advanced and I will post pictures asap.

Thank you for your generosity in making the files available, and for your research which has made the model correct - so many people don't bother with the latter. These are distinctive wagons and were numerous, so I hope other people have a go at them, like I am.

Thanks again,

Mike

Yes, huge thank you Mike as your work is comprehensive and your kindness in making them available to everyone. It's a real testiment to the designer when you can blow up a design from 4mm to 64mm and it looks great and stays dimensionally correct. Imagine doing that with a traditional brass etched/ white metal kit, the amount of time in re-drawing and manufacturing alone would be prohibitive I dare say.

Thanks, Ant (New Land 3D).

P.S. if there is interest, I may contemplate offering them in 7mm and both iterations of gauge 1, along with the other wagon prototypes.

4mm to 64mm
Not quite, but we take your point Ant. 4mm scale to 13.5mm scale, or 18mm gauge to 64mm gauge. But your point is absolutely valid. Personally, I hope they will also publicise the GNR and the GNR Society who are small, but a great bunch.

My wife however has other ideas: "how many more wagons do you need?" Serves me right for mentioning it to her!

Erm yes, scale/ gauge, whats the difference amongst friends? Haha

re-scaling things works pretty well as long as the difference is not too great. 4mm to 7mm and back is usually OK, going down to 2mm and vice versa usually needs a few amendments which might be doable in the slicer program or sometimes you have to go into the CAD program to effect a more suitable amendment.
